The Birchwood Redstone

The Birchwood Redstone has everything. This boutique, luxury cottage is located in the Algonquin Highlands, on 4.25 acres of untouched forest and overlooking Redstone Lake. The hosts, Ryan and Blair, couldn’t have been more accommodating and left special treats upon arrival. They purchased the house about six months ago, and have been renovating it ever since to create their dream cottage. The property has all the amenities you could possibly imagine and more, with three stunning bedrooms (all featuring comfy king-sized beds). It is the perfect spot for couples, friends or as a family getaway. Unique features include a hot tub, sunroom, and tons of tiny details that really make the place special. The decor is perfect in every way, giving off a real Canadian vibe, with big Muskoka chairs, maple leaf wall art, and oversized Hudson’s Bay beach blankets. The entire place was completely spotless.

After a gorgeous drive through the highlands, I arrived at the cottage on a Friday with beautiful weather. There was enough time to do a quick tour of the house, get in my bathing suit, and head to the dock. I continued to discover adorable decorations that really added to the overall feel of the property.

There are so many different areas to post up and relax, whether you want to sit by the fire pit, watch the sunset from the dock, or relax by BBQ on the upper deck.

There are numerous picture-perfect spots to take in the beautiful views and feel totally relaxed at The Birchwood.

The kitchen is fully equipped, with an induction stove-top, high-end BBQ, and all the kitchen utensils you can imagine. Live succulents are placed perfectly throughout the house. There is a Keurig machine (pods provided), a kettle, and tons of mugs to choose from. All you have to do is bring your favourite foods to cook and the rest you can find at The Birchwood.

Upon arrival, I was greeted with the most generous welcoming gift, which included some local craft beer and fresh soup!

The living room is equally as beautiful and cozy, with a wood fire and warm fuzzy blankets to curl up with on the couch while watching Netflix. Their coffee table books were the perfect touch, along with the multiple candles and other decorations. In the cabinet behind the couch, you can find games like Jenga, Monopoly, Cards Against Humanity, and more.

If it’s warm enough, spend time in the sunroom, which is ideal for drinks in the evening to avoid the bugs.

All the deck furniture matches the aesthetic of the inside and has magazine-worthy views.

These are some of the views from the dock. Float on this huge maple leaf float and drift around the lake.

Another option is to take the kayaks or pedal boat out for a test drive.

Another unique feature of this property is the in-ground hot tub, located on the wood deck overlooking the lake. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day of swimming and basking in the sunshine. The temperature was set to 100 degrees upon arrival, so all I needed to do was change into my bathing suit and hop in!

Stop by the Haliburton Brewing Company and try a flight of local beer, or test a few free samples at Boshkung Brewing Co, followed by lunch at Rhubarb.
