10 Luxurious Airbnbs That Are Worth The Splurge

These Airbnbs are the definition of what a perfect cottage stay should be, from the second you look at it, to the moment you walk out, amazed and fulfilled. Each one features a luxurious, perfectly thought out interior with its own own special touches and atmosphere. With great attention to its architecture, layout, and furniture, these places look professionally designed and built (and of course, some are!). Now, don’t even get me started on the outdoor vistas of these places! Most have amazing views and sometimes feature lakeside access steps from the house. One of these properties even has a swimming pool! These are all definitely worth the extra $$$, so whether you are looking to celebrate something special or just want to splurge – these are the spots I would definitely recommend. They all have very high ratings and will truly be the best getaway you can possibly imagine. All of these are available for rent on Airbnb (except The Bear Stand), and were handpicked by yours truly.

These properties are ordered from the most to the least expensive (per night) – mostly because I could not choose a favourite:

1. The Bear Stand

Price: From $950 /night to $1,250 /night (changes depending on the season)

Straight out of Architectural Digest Magazine, this luxury cabin experience is a one of a kind experience! This lakeside retreat is set on a secluded 99-acre plot surrounded by native Crown Lands in the Haliburton Highlands. The Bear Stand is equally as beautiful in the winter as in the summer. The 3,400 sq ft four-season cottage features four-bedrooms and three-bathrooms which sleeps ten. Floor to ceiling windows overlook picture-worthy thick forests and lake views. The modern, yet comfortable cabin, has three granite fireplaces (inside and out) and heated floors to keep you toasty in the wintertime. Make sure to take the dreamiest bath in their Asian-inspired ofuro tub (photo proof above) surrounded by only nature. Be sure to soak up all the amenities The Bear Stand also features a cedar wet sauna and outdoor rain shower. Its location in its own bay, right on the shores of shallow Contau Lake, makes it perfect to hop in a canoe and explore the wildlife around you.

2. Treehouse + Cabin Retreat

Price: $1,011 /night

The luxury adult-only treehouse and cabin are everything you can imagine and more. It’s the dream home you never knew existed until now (you’re welcome!). Only around a two hour drive from Toronto to Durham, this property can sleep up to eight in two bedrooms. It is the ideal place for a group of four to six friends, or for a romantic couples getaway (perhaps a prime local spot for a honeymoon?). The Treehouse + Cabin Retreat is designed to the nines, and is worth the price given such a special experience. This is one of the most decked out Airbnb’s I have seen in Ontario, and is definitely a once in a lifetime experience. The hosts are constantly switching up the furniture for returning guests and use only the highest quality of items at their property. Might I add there is a pool with lots of comfy lounge chairs?! If you’re as in love with this place as I am, then get on the waiting list because it’s a very hot commodity.

3. IronHorse Ranch

Price: $1,000 /night

OK – let me just start off by saying that this property has been featured on the Netflix series ‘Taste of the Country’ and it’s an entire ranch! IronHorse Ranch can sleep up to eight guests in four bedrooms, and has three bathrooms. The vibe is more old-school, which makes it especially cozy and full of charm. Originally built in the 1860s, this home is full of personality, featuring eleven feet ceilings as well as a buffalo head in the living-room. The property is extremely private and close to the Kawartha Lakes. It’s ideal for a romantic getaway, a girl’s weekend, or even for hosting a retreat. It’s a great spot to have people over and entertain. In the summer, take a walk around their huge outdoor space and check out the pond that transforms into an ice rink in the winter. Be warned, there is no air-conditioning so BYOF (Bring Your Own Fan).

4. Cressy House

The rustic farmhouse with a modern twist is perfect for families, couples, small social gatherings, and of course, food lovers. The owner of this property, chef Grant van Gameren, is the same as the owner/chef of Bar Raval in Toronto and clearly has an eye for detail. You can even request a private dinner hosted by the chef himself for an extra special experience (which I would highly recommend). The property can fit up to 12 guests in 6 spectacular bedrooms. Be warned – the wifi can be glitchy, but who really needs it when you’re staying here?

Price: $360 /night

Dragonfield House, located in Prince Edward County, is beautifully designed inside with a contemporary to country living vibe. The four-bedroom split-level home also has a guest yoga retreat/napping cabin called “The Jasper,” and is perfect for curling up with a book by the fire. All bedrooms are boutique-style and the walls are insulated for extra privacy. On top of all that, there is also a heated salt-water pool and separate hot tub for two (available year-round). Are you getting ready to book yet? The entire property features everything you might need in a “city” home, yet completely removed from the noises of terribly loud construction and cars honking. The kitchen is well equipped with whatever you might need, along with a fully integrated sound system. A library is available for guest use, along with a daybed for lounging in the afternoon. Oh, and one more thing, their refurbished vintage Airstream named “The Silver Fox,” features a chic and private martini lounge. You will definitely want to hide out there for a few cocktails.
