DISCLAIMER: While I write this list, we are currently in “lockdown,” so I’m not advising you to go to any of these places right now. Everyone is feeling extra low these days and it’s important to find things to look forward to. Hopefully, we will be able to stay at properties in Ontario again soon. Until then, we can still imagine all the places we could be in the future!

1. The Baltic

This sleek and modern designed treehouse called The Baltic was built using as many sustainable and natural materials as possible. The open-concept and floor to ceiling windows give the feeling of being completely immersed in the forest. Located on the main floor is a kitchen and full bath, which even features a custom rain shower! Climb up the ladder to access the loft bedroom, and snuggle up in the large king-sized bed.

The Ontario company, Fort Treehouse Co., has plans to build more properties in the near future.

2. River Treehouse

Take the one-kilometre rugged footpath to this tiny and simple treehouse located on the banks of the Sydenham River. This experience is for someone who enjoys backcountry camping. Live sustainably and self-sufficiently while you soak up all nature has to offer. There is a sleeping platform and woodstove inside. Sit back and relax in the hammock on the porch or head to the riverbank for a campfire. Enjoy days birdwatching and the evening stargazing.

NOTE: There is no power or running water. (i.e. get comfortable with the outhouse). From May to October, an outdoor shower is available at the farmhouse. You can also charge your devices, if necessary.

This off-grid treehouse is a newly finished property with a solar light and candles acting as the main source of lighting. Make sure to make use of the barrel sauna to rinse off. It features an outdoor grill, propane coffee maker, indoor wood stove, hammocks and a bonfire. Spend a few days here and you will really be in tune with nature.

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

This serene treehouse is custom-built in a secluded area surrounded by 100 acres of deep forest and right by the water. Spend time outside country skiing and/or snowshoe across the land in the winter months. During the warmer season, you have access to a canoe! Cook dinner by the indoor wood stove and spend evenings playing board games. Enjoy the sounds and potentially even the views of lots of wildlife from bullfrogs to wolves. This property has one queen-sized bed and two single beds.
