Snuggle Up In These Secluded Cabins This Spring

Looking for an incredible cabin to snuggle up this spring? These are the ideal places to spend some time sitting back and relaxing after the harsh Canadian winters. Some of these cabins feature more luxurious amenities than others. Make sure to book these properties fast, as most are really popular and get reserved early.

(1) Penner Cabin

Location: Sydenham, Ontario
Price: $169/night (weeknight) | $179/night (weekend)

This cabin is a two-hour drive from Toronto, and only a short ten-minute drive to the cute village of Sydenham, where you can find anything you need for your getaway. Sydenham has all the amenities you will need for your stay, like an LCBO + Beer Store, gas station, grocery store, bank, etc. The cabin is modernized with solar power, drinking water, gas stovetop, propane BBQ, fridge, freezer, indoor composting toilet, kitchen accessories, and an indoor shower. On warmer days,  enjoy the outdoor shower, followed by some cocktails on the lakeside dock.

Before starting the day, have your coffee on your private deck and watch the sunrise. The cabin is in close proximity to South Frontenac, Ontario (on the southern edge of the Canadian shield) which makes it simple to spend your weekend exploring the absolutely stunning Frontenac Provincial Park. Board games, cards, and puzzles are provided in the cabin for evening entertainment, along with the lakeside fire-pits.

Location: Caledon, Ontario
Price: $209/night

Located in the middle of the peaceful woods, this cozy cabin with 15 acres is open year-round. It looks equally beautiful in all seasons. Nestled in Caledon, it is located only one hour from Toronto, which means you are very close to amazing parks like Island Lake, Hockley Valley, Forks of the Credit and more.

The property is ideal for a romantic weekend for couples, a getaway with friends, or even perfect for a larger event. Relax in your own personal oasis overlooking the picturesque pond. Be aware that the cabin is quite rustic and has no running water, but easy access to the nearby Victorian house provides you with washroom facilities and a shared kitchen (with a tiny compost toilet available in the cabin). Lay in the hammock and take in the starry night sky in the summer evenings. That sounds like a pretty dreamy getaway to me.

Location: South River, Ontario

Set among the trees for ultimate privacy, this off-grid cabin in the woods is the perfect place to fully unwind. Luckily, the cabin does have power and lights, along with a wood-burning stove for warming up in the evenings. Wifi is also available if needed. The cabin is equipped with a 2 burner propane BBQ, as well, all utensils and cookware are available including dishes, cutlery, coffee and tea. The washroom and shower facilities are only a short walking distance from the cabin.

(4) Riverbend Cabin

Location: Thomasburg, Ontario
Price: $149/night

The cozy A-frame cottage is a beautifully curated home with a touch of vintage charm and most modern necessities. If being connected to the internet is an absolute must, this isn’t the right cabin for you. About a 30-minute drive from Belleville, the two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage is a loft-style home. Located in a peaceful and remote area, this property has a waterfront location with private access to the Moira River.

The open-spaced layout with two bedrooms makes it the perfect stay for a couple, two couples or a family of three or four. The main floor includes a full kitchen with stove/oven, large fridge, toaster, Le Creuset stove-top tea kettle, drip coffee maker, and espresso maker. The living space includes a cozy fireplace, large comfy couch area, a dining table with seats for four people, along with a great selection of board games and vinyl records to play on the turntable. Spend the evenings by the fire pit, overlooking the Moira River, and watch the stars. 

NOTE: Neither bedrooms have doors, as this is a loft-style open concept house.

(5) The Cabin at Fernwood Hills

Looking to completely escape into the outdoors? The Cabin at Fernwood Hills could be just the place you’re looking for. Unplug and unwind in this 100 square foot cabin in Southern Ontario. This one bedroom cabin has large windows and an offsite washroom. This spot is an ideal romantic getaway for people looking for a place that is a little bit more upscale than rural camping, but not quite glamping. The property overlooks lots of green spaces and focuses on regenerative agriculture and sustainable agricultural practices. Connect with nature, not with wifi.

This place is really for meditating and recharging. The interior is simple, with air mattresses for beds. There is the option of a full breakfast on Saturday mornings and a Continental breakfast on Sunday mornings – you can even have it delivered right to your door. If you’re staying here for a special occasion, they provide an option of little candles and pretty flowers decorated romantically. Another option is a medium-sized charcuterie board of apps upon arrival, including soup.

(6) Aux Box

Location: Huntsville, Ontario
Price: $170/night

Welcome to the tiny home of your dreams. From the same owners as The Wolegib, this stunning off-grid modern cabin is situated upon a cliff with views over the rolling hills and along the water. Unfortunately, there’s no water access. It’s cozy, cute and has almost everything you need from bed linens and pillows to power. Electricity cannot always be guaranteed as the cabin is solar-powered, which means it’s a good idea to bring a flashlight, but there is a wood fireplace. The perfect balance between location and seclusion, the Aux Box is a one-minute walk from where you park your car and only a quick drive to the main street in Hunstville. 

NOTE: There is no running water, but toilet paper, hand sanitizer, paper towel, wood, propane for the bbq are provided. Hot plate and kettle are also available, but that doesn’t include pots, pans or cooking utensils. Winter tires are a necessity to drive here in the cold and snowy months. Good cell phone reception if you need it.

(7) The Cabin In The City

Location: Scarborough, Ontario
Price: $101/night

This serene custom-built cabin is situated in the gorgeous area of Rouge Valley National Park, which has tons of beautiful trails at every time of the year. The tiny all-season home is only a half an hour drive from downtown Toronto. Some important items provided include an outdoor fire pit, BBQ, stove, and composting toilet. Wi-Fi is not currently available in the cabin but it can be accessed closer to the main house. Amenities provided are cooking and eating utensils, a coffee press, clean sheets, four pillows, toilet paper, a water jug, and drinking water. Indoor firewood will be waiting for you inside the cabin, but you have to purchase outside firewood from the house. Take a look outside that huge circular window and allow yourself to truly disconnect.

NOTE: There is no power in the cabin and no way to charge electronics. Also, no shower or bath available, at this time. In the winter, you can rent snowshoes from the main house.

(8) The Eco-Cabin Muskoka

Location: Bracebridge, Ontario

This off-grid cabin is perfect for those looking to really escape city life. This tiny home is built almost entirely of wood by the owners, along with materials milled from their property. With custom carpentry and bright natural lighting, this peaceful cabin is truly sustainable. There is no electricity or heat, but there are battery-solar operated lights and a charging bank for electronics. No shower yet, but there is running water and lots of lakes to swim in nearby. Keep this in mind if you are thinking of coming in the colder months (although, they do provide seasonal appropriate bedding). There is a small kitchenette with an iced Yeti cooler for food and beverages. The hosts generously provide homemade granola, tea, and coffee for you. The small powder room has a composting toilet – and yes, there’s a door! Before bed, climb up the ladder and snuggle up in the comfortable sleeping loft with a large queen bed. Have breakfast in the screened-in Muskoka room, featuring a hammock and large breezy windows. Take a long walk in the woods around the property. Private yoga, reiki, and massages are available. Make sure to visit the town of Bracebridge and Baysville for a bite to eat, or to check out the shops, or make the 45-minute drive to Algonquin Park.

(9) Westcliff Cabin

Location: Muskoka Lakes, Ontario
Price: $120/night

This sustainably built and eco-friendly cabin is submerged in the deep woods overlooking an environmentally protected bog. From May to September there is a BBQ available for use. In addition, a rain-fed system allows for outdoor showers in the summer (um, yes!). Outside the covered deck is the perfect place to enjoy a bonfire (and the hosts provide plenty of dead wood for burning).

The cabin, located on Skeleton Lake, boasts amazing sunset views and has access to hiking trails, nearby lakes, and cute towns. It is heated year-round and has a fan for the warmer seasons. The kitchenette includes a sink, mini-fridge, single cooking unit and is fully stocked with pots, pans, silverware, dishes, utensils, kettle + coffee press. It also has basics, i.e. oil, salt pepper/spices, along with coffee/tea, dish soap, and dishcloths. The loft has twin mattresses with fitted sheets, pillows, and a light queen comforter. Guests must bring their own sleeping bags or extra blankets if needed. Access to the compost toilet is on-site but located in a separate insulated room that is accessed from outside the cabin. You are able to charge your phone via a USB charging port.

NOTE: Due to the terrain and wildlife, the cabin is not suitable for children and pets.

(10) Romantic Cottage Getaway

This sophisticated log cabin is the perfect adventure for two people. It is completely decked out with custom cherry cabinets and a farm sink with a corner stone fireplace. The fully equipped kitchen has all utensils needed, as well as a fridge and freezer. Free kayaks, canoes, SUP Rentals are available for use on the lake in the summer. The hosts are generous enough to offer their Algonquin Park Pass. In the winter, you can borrow their snowshoes and go for a snowy walk near the property. There are absolutely breathtaking views over the lake during all seasons that can be viewed from the deck or the comfort of the couch. Enjoy quality toiletries and soaps, shower toilets, and even a hairdryer. This place is a bit more modern than some of the others.

(11) Scandinavian Inspired A-Frame

This charming and unique A-frame cabin has its decor down to an art. Perfect for two couples to share, there are two separate sleeping spaces provided. It is equipped with a full kitchen, and a BBQ is also available on the outside deck (+ firepits). The cabin becomes partially off-grid in the winter months, with drinking water and an outhouse provided. The cabin will stay nice and toasty with the wall heater and wood stove. Modern amenities like a TV and wifi are available year-round. Wake up to the sounds of the babbling creek, and spend days exploring hiking trails, waterfalls, and local farms. 

NOTE: This cabin is not suitable for children (2-12 years old) or pets.
